The federal government is currently meeting with the leaders of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG.
The meeting, which had been scheduled for 10:00 a.m., began about 5:30 p.m. due to delays in the arrival of NUPENG officials.
The discussion, which is now taking place in the conference room of the Ministry of Labour, Employment, and Productivity, aims to put an end to the statewide industrial strike before it causes major harm to the weak economy.
NUPENG has accused Dangote and associates of pursuing “crude and dangerous anti-union practices, a monopolistic agenda, and indecent industrial relations strategies,” claiming that the refinery pays some of the lowest wages in the sector and prohibits drivers of imported CNG trucks from joining industry unions.
The union claims that the recruitment criteria contradict Section 40 of the Constitution, the Labour Act, and International Labour Organisation norms on freedom of association.
