No fewer than 10 victims of a ghastly accident on the Benin–Auchi highway were rescued on Saturday through the swift intervention of Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Okpebolo, who was travelling with his convoy to Irrua in the Esan Central Local Government Area, met a traffic gridlock shortly after the bypass and alighted to assess the cause.
According to reports, on reaching the scene, he found several passengers in critical condition, many bleeding profusely, while bystanders looked on helplessly.
Moved by their situation, Okpebholo ordered his aides to deploy two of his security Hilux vehicles to evacuate the victims to a nearby medical facility.
He personally oversaw the rescue attempt, ensuring that the injured, including a woman with terrible wounds, were transported one after the other into the cars for immediate care.
According to eyewitnesses, the collision occurred when the driver of a white Toyota Venza with the registration number ABUJA GWA 50 AW drove against traffic and collided with three fully filled commercial minibuses.
Many people were hurt as a result of the collision, which also generated a significant traffic jam.
Okpebholo remained at the scene until the last of the victims were transported to the hospital under security guard before continuing his journey.
His prompt action received praise from locals, motorists, and supporters.
