No fewer than four people have been killed, with properties destroyed by armed herdsmen across Tombu Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area, Benue State.

Joseph Anawah, a community leader in the neighbourhood, said the incident occurred on Monday.

Anawah said, “Suspected Fulani marauders at about 15:00 hours burnt down many deserted settlements, including Tse Mku in Tombu Council Ward.

“Two people were killed in their farmlands located at the outskirts of Ayilamo settlement yesterday (Monday).

They were Mr Kaananfam Nyamikume, a resident of Tse Jigam village, and Mr Mson of Guma LGA, as well as a medicine seller.

“While one Mr Saaondo Mundu Azaye, a resident of Tse Azaye, was also killed.”

According to the community leader, neighbours, especially youngsters from Ayilamo and neighbouring settlements, went looking for the missing people on Tuesday and discovered two dead bodies near Tse Uza village, while the other two farmers are still missing.

Anawah claimed that the assailants were camping at Tse Ibor, Tse Ukpukuru, Anyibe, and other abandoned settlements of the Mbawien clan in Tombu Council Ward, Logo LGA of Benue state.

When reached, DSP Udeme Edet, spokeswoman for the Benue State Command, requested time to investigate and promised to answer, but she did not return calls to her mobile at the time of filing this report.
