Nigerians have criticised mobile telecommunication giant MTN over what they described as the removal of favourable data plan packages.
In various comments on the popular social media platform X, they accused MTN of removing data plans their customers enjoy, replacing them with unfavourable data plans.
Their frustration comes months after the telecoms giant, along with other telecommunications operators, hiked the prices for data by over 150 per cent; a move that has been criticised by the National Assembly, ordering them to rescind their decision.
Describing the firm as a ”wicked organisation”, the aggrieved MTN subscribers alleged that the telecoms giant does not care about the utilities their customers should enjoy.
They alleged that the firm is profit-driven at the detriment of subscribers.
”Mtn is a very wicked organisation,” an X user, Strawberry Uncle, stated.
”They see you enjoying a particular data subscription on that *121# smart data plan; the next week they will remove it,” he added.
Sharing similar sentiments, another X user simply identified as Noel said, ”Very, very wicked organisation. They see you enjoying the bonus on Betatalk, and they quickly stop it. Once they see you are enjoying something, that’s the end of it.”
Suyi lamented that ”They removed my #N8,000 for 150gb and changed it to N18,000 for 115gb.”
Another X user, Baeron, recounting his ordeal, wrote, ”I wanted to buy a week plan; it wasn’t there, so I decided to buy the monthly plan in Data4Me, but I had insufficient balance. Today, I recharged to buy the freaking data, and they have changed it.”
”I woke up last week on Friday to see my line had been credited with 10 GB data and minus N5k. I called to complain and asked if another client had complained about this, and they said yes. I asked them to take care of the mess, and they agreed. 1 hr later, I got a message that it can’t be undone,” Ufere Wills lamented.
For a social media user identified as Fountain, he blames the ”nonchalance” of the telecoms giant on the federal government.
Fountain alleged that the federal government handles the telecommunication sector with laxity, thus allowing mobile operators to have a field day at the detriment of their subscribers.
”Wicked organisation I blame my country; nothing makes sense here,” he said.
This publication highlights below more lamentations of subscribers to the alleged frequent data bundle reset by MTN.
Adeolu Opeyemi, ”The same thing happened to me two days ago. They removed the 1.5 GB gb for N300 that I was managing. I instantly relocated back to my GLO. MTN, it is your loss.
Jewel Udeohi, ”Very wicked. The worst is after recharging to subscribe, they remove it, and you’re forced to buy something else.”
Nathaniel Ifaenyi, ”What makes their way really annoying is that they will always make profits, irrespective of how they handle their business. But for some reason, they are still greedy. Not to mention how they rip us off with their data plan.”
Elizabeth Joseph, ‘MTN, please do better. It’s frustrating. Why the constant reset? Or at least give us some notice before the reset so we can prepare better.”
Comfort David, ”MTN has been hell lately. They advertised a data bundle; I had the exact amount and subscribed, and they sent me less than what was advertised. Now they will tell you so-and-so bundle costs #500, but when you click to buy, they change it to #600 and add rubbish.”
Blossom Akpan, ”These thieves (MTN) took my money for data and gave me a bundle that I didn’t pay for and started charging for that bundle. Now they’re saying they can’t refund my money. Thieves”
Temi, ”They’re very wicked. They even restrict people from sharing data. My husband did data for 18k for 150 GB with the hope that we’ll both be using it.
”This useless organisation restricted him, and he could only share 5 GB out of it, causing us to spend extra money to buy data on my phone.”
