No fewer than 14 people have been killed in an accident along the Tage Bridge in the Kafin Hausa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

On Monday, a vehicle carrying passengers crashed, killing multiple people. Eyewitnesses described the scene as gruesome, with many bodies scattered.

The state police command confirmed the accident through their public relations officer, DSP Shi’isu Adam.

In a conversation with our correspondent, Adam disclosed that the driver of the vehicle survived the crash and is now supporting authorities with investigations to determine the reason for the tragedy.

“The identities of the victims have not been released, pending notification of their families,” he said.

Adam explained that the accident occurred when a Golf 3 waggon with the license plate GML 842 XA, travelling from Hadejia to Makera hamlet, somersaulted and crashed into the river.

According to the police spokeswoman, the driver of the vehicle survived the crash and is presently supporting the police with their investigations.

“When we got a distress call, our men promptly moved to the scene of the accident and carried the victims to the nearest Hadejia General Hospital, where a doctor on call confirmed the deaths of eight women, two men, and four young men at the scene,” Adam said.

The police are conducting a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

The public is encouraged to contribute any information that may aid in the inquiry.
