A soldier named Yahaya Ayuba (zabuyia) was killed, and his stepmother was kidnapped by gunmen in Anguwan Rimi village, Zango Kataf Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

Kantiok Solomon, a family member, confirmed the sad incident to reporters on Monday.

According to him, the soldier arrived from Lagos on Sunday evening, and the gunmen entered the house while he was having a conversation with his family.

“The incident happened last Sunday, at around 11 p.m., when the bandits wielding AK-47 rifles invaded the house to abduct the stepmother, but the soldier resisted.

“Meanwhile, the gunmen noticed his uniform hanging on the cushion and resorted to gunning him down,” Kantiok said.

Another resident, Angelo Tagwai, confirmed the story and stated that the scenario had thrown the neighbourhood into panic, as it was the third time such slaughter had occurred in the town.

“We’re calling on the security operatives to immediately swing into action to rescue the stepmother and ensure the perpetrators of this act are arrested and prosecuted.”

At the time of filing this report, ASP Mansir Hassan, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, was yet to comment on the incident.
