Wale Adedayo, the impeached chairman of the Ijebu East Local Government (LGA), has been arraigned by the Ogun State Police Command on a two-count charge of allegedly posting a false narrative concerning the state government’s misappropriation of local government funds.
This follows a petition filed by the state government on the alleged zero allocation and diversion of local government funding by the state government, which the government has disputed.
Adedayo, who was arrested by police on Monday, has since been charged at the Magistrate Court 2 in Abeokuta’s Isabo district.
The defendant entered a not guilty plea to the two-count accusation levelled against him.
Kayode Akinsola, the defendant’s counsel, applied for bail, promising that if granted, the prisoner would not jump bail and would honour all terms linked to the bail application, to which the prosecuting counsel, Olaide Rolly, did not object.
The sitting judge, A K Araba, admitted the defendant to bail of N2 million and two sureties with landed properties, among others within the court’s jurisdiction, in her decision on the bail application.
However, the case has been postponed until October 20 for the next hearing, and the defendant has been held at the Ibara Correctional Centre in Abeokuta.
