A fire at a gasoline storage facility in the Crimean port city of Sevastopol, Russia, triggered by a drone strike, has been completely doused, according to the city’s newly appointed governor on Saturday.

According to Mikhail Razvozhaev on the Telegram messaging service, experts studied the location and “it became clear that only one drone was able to reach the oil reservoir.” Another drone was shot down, and the wreckage was discovered near the terminal. He had previously said that no one had been hurt.

According to RBC Ukraine, a Ukrainian military intelligence officer said that more than ten tanks with oil products with a capacity of roughly 40,000 tonnes destined for use by Russia’s Black Sea Fleet were destroyed.

In remarks cited by RBC, the official, Andriy Yusov, did not blame Ukraine for the explosion, instead described it as “God’s punishment” for a Russian assault on a Ukrainian city on Friday.

Earlier, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s military forces said that he had no evidence to imply Ukraine was responsible for the incident.

On Saturday, air defence and electronic warfare troops shot down two drones over the Crimean Peninsula, according to Sergei Aksyonov, the Russian-appointed leader of Crimea.

“There have been no casualties or destruction,” he said.

Since Russia invaded the country as a whole in February 2022, Sevastopol, on the Crimean peninsula that Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014, has been subjected to repeated air attacks.

The authorities have blamed Ukraine for the strikes.
