Arsenal blasted second-bottom Burnley 5-0 at Turf Moor on Saturday, moving to second place and keeping pressure on Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Captain Martin Odegaard scored in the fourth minute with a left-footed shot from the edge of the box into the bottom right corner, and Saka made it 2-0 in the 41st after a foul on Leandro Trossard.

Saka scored his second two minutes after the break, his 12th league goal of the season, Trossard clipped one in for 4-0, and Kai Havertz added a fifth as Arsenal won their fifth consecutive game in 2024.

After 25 games, the London side is two points behind Liverpool, which won 4-1 at Brentford, and three points ahead of champions Manchester City, who face Chelsea in the late start.

Arsenal, which blasted West Ham United 6-0 last weekend, has scored 21 goals in their past five games, and they could easily have increased that total against the Clarets.

Trossard, who now has three goals in three games, squandered numerous additional opportunities, including a major one early in the first half.

Odegaard assisted Saka’s second goal, but the England forward’s hat-trick chances were dashed when he was substituted in the 69th minute with one yellow card, and the game was won.

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany would always have a difficult afternoon watching from the seats after receiving a touchline ban for his third booking of the season, and things only got worse.

The game was called off in the 63rd minute when Burnley’s Aaron Ramsey was given oxygen and brought out on a stretcher after seemingly damaging his knee in a tackle by Odegaard.

Burnley remain in trouble at the bottom of the Premier League table, level on points with Sheffield United.
