The prevalent security challenges bedevilling the country have made prospective Corps members lament their deployment by the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, to states all over the country.

In the early hours of Tuesday, popular social media platform X was agog with prospective corps members complaining about their deployment to states they believe are crisis-ridden.

The NYSC, as reported by the Chronicle NG, announced that the scheme has stopped the deployment of Corps members to very unsafe states and locations.

Jamila Ibrahim, the Minister of Youth, revealed this during an interview with Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

Recall that some corps members have been kidnapped in various parts of the country while serving their one-year required national service, raising concerns about the scheme’s viability.

However, Ibrahim stated that the organisation has taken precautions to ensure the safety of NYSC members, including placing them solely in safe states.

However, the recent posting of prospective corps members to various states to undertake the mandatory one-year service for graduates has stirred the irks of Nigerians.

Reacting to the news, an X user simply identified as Arikeade noted that her sister has been crying over her deployment to Nasarawa State.

Speaking in pidgin, she said, “Dem post, my sister to Bauchi State, and she has been crying in my DM since morning.”

Amarachi also lamented, saying, “So, NYSC, you people really carried me to Bauchi, a soft girl like me.”

While Borno State has been the epicentre of the ongoing war against terrorism, some prospective Corps members were posted to the state.

Asking how safe the state is, Comfort Enesi complained, saying, “They posted my sister to Borno for NYSC; she dey cry. Are they still camping there? Is the place safe now?”

While Dandy noted that “it’s actually insensitive for NYSC to still deploy people to faraway states despite the level of insecurity in this country,” Boluwatife rained curses on the scheme, saying, “The only reason I know Abia State is because of the state and capital. NYSC is now telling me to serve there. You will crumble.”

With a crying emoji, Lilian lamented her deployment to Borno State when she said, “Nysc, Wetin I dey go find for Borno?”

Bringing the recently held presidential election into the discussion, Kingsley noted that even the supporters of President Bola Tinubu were not spared in the deployment to war-torn areas.

He said, “NYSC, don send ‘I am BATIFIED,’ go Katsina for service, and he dey lament for WhatsApp status.

“The suffering is just starting; all of you that were wicked enough to turn an election that would have saved generations unborn from suffering into a tribal war will never know peace. Especially the youths that involved themselves in that wickedness.”

While others called for the scheme to be scrapped, others lamented that, despite paying money to be posted to their states of preference, they were posted to crisis-ridden states.

Uncle Bob, an X user, said, “My neighbour pay N50,000 to make NYSC post am go Rivers, NYSC shock am carry am go Adamawa.”

For Iykology on X, he lamented, saying he paid N150,000 but was still deployed to Zamfara State.

“When you paid 150k to organise your NYSC posting and you open your letter and see Zamfara,” he said,.

For King Whsam, he warned prospective corps members to be careful. He said, “Pls be careful of these NYSC postings; Nigeria is not that safe to be risking your lives to travel to serve in a faraway state!”

However, for Adaeze Nnaji, she noted that Nigeria and the NYSC scheme are not worth dying for.

Nnaji said, “I see the complaints about where NYSC posted some people. Please, just remember that this country is not worth risking your life for.

“Please, remember. If anything happens, there isn’t a working government to protect you or intervene. It’s not worth it.”

While Airster Dan and Temitope both opined that “to serve Nigeria is not by force,”  Abdulssalami Haleem stated that “NYSC should start posting everybody to their respective states for service. This issue of insecurity is not a minor threat.”
