Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have arrested Hafsat Sirajo, a 24-year-old housewife, for allegedly stabbing her driver, Nafiu Hafizu, to death in Kano.
The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, paraded the suspect and her two accomplices before reporters on Friday.
Gumel stated that Hafsat, a resident of Tarauni Local Government Area’s Unguwa Uku quarters, confessed to committing the act alone by stabbing her driver multiple times with a knife.
According to the police commissioner, her husband, Dayyabu AAbdullahi, 38, and their guard, Mallam Adam, 65, were also detained for assisting and concealing the dead body in order to cover up the crime of culpable homicide.
He stated that the police received a report from one Hafizu Salisu of Bauchi Local Government, Bauchi State, who stated that he received a phone call from one Dayyabu Abdullahi stating that his brother, one Nafiu Hafizu, was deceased and that they should come and convey the corpse to Bauchi for burial, but when they arrived, they discovered several injuries on various parts of his body.
“The motionless body was removed from the scene and rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where a medical doctor certified him dead,” the CP said.
Hafsat informed reporters, her face veiled by a veil, that the driver who stayed with the couple tried to stop her from killing herself and confiscated a knife from her hand.
“I had a small cut on my hand, and he asked me to go and change my clothes. Coming out of the bathroom, I saw him lying down, and I grabbed the knife and stabbed him severally,” she said.
Dayyabu Abdullahi, the suspect’s husband, said he personally called relatives of the deceased in Bauchi to deliver the news.
“I called his parents in Bauchi to tell them that Nasiru had died. And Baba here suggested that we should wash the dead body.” Dayyabu said
Meanwhile, the deceased’s father, Malam Hafizu Gorondo, is suspicious that the pair plotted to kill his son because of some outstanding debts Dayyabu owed his son.
He stated that his son had informed him about Dayyabu, his business partner, failing to return him a N25 million debt.
According to the police, after investigations, the suspects would be prosecuted.
