Four persons have been reportedly killed in an attack on Gudum Village in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State by suspected gunmen.
The unfortunate incident, according to residents of the village, happened on Sunday night.
The assailants’ objective was the village’s ward head, whose home was set on fire and his wife and children kept hostage while he fled the scene.
However, the arrival of Operation Safe Haven officers in response to a distress call made the gunmen to leave the site after killing four men.
In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Ber, Governor Caleb Mutfwang denounced the attack and instructed security authorities to capture the offenders and bring them to justice.
The governor expressed his condolences to the injured families, describing the attack as brutal and reprehensible, in which women and children were confined within two rooms and rescued by security forces.
