The ride-hailing company Bolt has revealed that it has suspended over 5,000 drivers in the last six months owing to noncompliance and safety issues.

Bolt’s Country Manager, Yahaya Mohammed, stated this at a press conference in Lagos, saying the company was stepping up safety procedures on its platform with a focus on riders and drivers.

He stated that the company spent over N20 million to improve safety features, implement advanced reporting mechanisms, and undertake driver and passenger awareness programs.

According to Mohammed, the severe compliance measures are intended to ensure safety standards and result in immediate penalties, including permanent suspension for those who fail to comply.

“At Bolt, the safety of all users on our platform is our top priority. We understand the trust our users place in us, and we are taking proactive steps to ensure their well-being during every ride.

“Our enhanced safety measures and stricter compliance measures, coupled with technology-driven solutions, reaffirm our commitment to providing a secure and reliable transportation experience for all,” the country manager said.

He stated that Bolt was still committed to providing top-tier safety infrastructure within the transportation and mobility ecosystem.

“The company continues to permanently block drivers and riders reported for any misconduct from accessing the platform.

These operational changes aim to amplify the safety features and trip experience of users on its platform.”

Bolt’s initiatives to improve quality and safety on its platform include expanded safety procedures, driver and rider awareness programs, tougher compliance controls, and advanced reporting mechanisms, he said.
