No fewer than 14 suspected vote buyers have been arrested in Otueke and Adawari playgrounds in Bayelsa State and at various polling units in Imo and Kogi State by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity at the EFCC.
According to the statement, they were arrested on Saturday, November 11, 2023, in an intelligence-driven operation that commenced several days before the ongoing governorship elections in the three states.
The statement also reveals that a total sum of N11,040,000, comprising N9,310,00 intercepted from suspected vote buyers and sellers in Bayelsa and N1,730,000 intercepted from electoral fraud suspects across Imo State, were recovered from them.
The commission further disclosed that two vehicles were intercepted by the suspects, who will be charged in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
