Aisha Yesufu, a sociopolitical activist, has warned of a more damaging protest than the 2020 statewide ‘End SARS’ demonstration.
Chronicle NG reports that EndSARS was a decentralized social movement and a series of mass protests against police brutality in the country.
The slogan demanded that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a notorious squad of the Nigeria Police, be disbanded.
The protest, which began on X, ended in enormous rallies in Nigeria’s main cities as well as violence, which resulted in the deaths of many young Nigerians.
Yesufu, one of the campaigners at the heart of the demonstration, believes Nigerians may be taken off guard by what is to come.
Yesufu observed that there is a seething rage in the country, fed by the impunity and bravado of corrupt politicians and rulers who have cheated their way to power.
“Nobody saw the #EndSARS protest coming. Nobody will see the next uprising coming,” she wrote on X.
“Sadly, it might end up being violent. There is a simmering anger fueled by the impunity and brazenness of the corrupt politicians and rulers who have rigged their way into power. Nobody will be spared,” she added.
