Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah made a late cameo from the bench as Liverpool swatted Toulouse aside in the Europa League but still had time to score a momentous goal.

Mohamed Salah‘s goal for Liverpool against Toulouse didn’t have much impact on the outcome, with the Reds well on their way to a big win, but it was enough for the Egyptian to break a record held by Thierry Henry for 17 years.

French international Henry scored 42 goals in European competition for Arsenal, the last of them coming against Porto in September 2006. He didn’t add to that tally during his second spell with the Gunners, during which he played just once in Europe.

His record of most European goals by a Premier League player stood for more than a decade and a half. However, Salah has finally surpassed Henry with his second Europa League goal this season to add to his 41 in the Champions League in Liverpool’s colours.

Salah’s first European goal of the season came in a 3-1 victory away to LASK, one of three straight victories for Jurgen Klopp’s side. The latest win, by five goals to one against Toulouse, also saw Diogo Jota, Wataru Endo, Darwin Nunez, and Ryan Gravenberch find the net.

“I think, as I’ve said before, I think it’s really easy to fall in love with this team because it has so much excitement in it,” Klopp said after the win. “We have to make massive steps; we have to grow; we have to get more stable; we have to do a lot of things, but a lot of signs are really promising.

“So far, it’s OK, and before we play Toulouse again, we have three games,” he added. “There is a lot that can happen between now and then, and I would like to play them all one after the other without making too many big steps.”
