President Bola Tinubu has named Ola Olukoyede as Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed the appointment in a statement on Thursday.

Olukoyede is slated to serve for four years if confirmed by the Senate.

    • Tinubu appoints Olukoyede as EFCC chairman, Hammajoda as Secretary

Below are six things to know about the new EFCC boss:

    1. Olukoyede hails from Ekiti State, South-west Nigeria.
    2. He was born in Ikere-Ekiti on 14 October 1969.
    3. Olukoyede is a seasoned lawyer with over twenty- two (22) years of experience in compliance management, corporate intelligence and fraud management.
    4.  He has extensive experience in the operations of the EFCC, having previously served as Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman (2016-2018)
    5. He is a Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG)
    6. Former President Muhammadu Buhari nominated him to serve Secretary to the EFCC (2018-2023)

President Tinubu dismissed Abdulrasheed Bawa as EFCC head in June of this year, and in his place, nominated Abdulkarim Chukkol, then director of operations, as acting chair.

Bawa’s suspension, based on “weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him,” followed a standard pattern of unceremonious expulsion of previous EFCC leaders.
