The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Kaduna has pronounced the Kaduna state governorship election in 2023 inconclusive.
In a split decision of ratio 2:1 margin on Thursday, the 3-man tribunal panel ruled the election to be inconclusive and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hold a rerun within ninety days.
As a result, the three-member panel chaired by Justice Victor Oviawe ordered a repeat of the election in 24 polling units in seven wards of four local governments, totaling 16,300 registered voters.
After the judges avoided the physical hall, the verdict was announced through Zoom.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Isah Mohammed Ashiru, filed the petition.
PDP’s Ashiru is contesting Uba Sani’s election as Kaduna State Governor on the grounds of alleged irregularities and electoral fraud, claiming that its candidate (Isa Mohammed Ashiru) won the poll.
