    Police kill one, arrest three suspected cultists in Benue

    Operatives of the Benue State Police Command have killed one and arrested three suspected armed robbers and cultists in Makurdi, the state capital.

    This was stated in a press statement issued yesterday in Makurdi by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Sewuese Anene.

    According to the statement, officers from Operation Zenda JTF raided the communities of Kighir, Kanshio, and Adeke after receiving convincing intelligence regarding the activities of the armed robbery syndicate.

    According to the statement, when the suspects saw the police, they engaged them in a gun battle, and one of them was shot and died later at the hospital where he was being treated.

    In the process, one of the armed robbers sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, where he was receiving treatment but eventually died and has been deposited at the hospital mortuary.

    “Other gang members arrested include Tersoo Akatakpo, aka General “, Gowon Akatakpo, Ikya Chahul Atseriyol, and Terver Iortimdee.

    “Items recovered from them are one single-barrel gun, two locally made pistols, five live cartridges, four expanded empty shells of cartridges, two Dane guns, one red beret with the JVC logo, and three handsets suspected to be stolen.”

    The statement further stated that the suspects, who would be charged in court following the conclusion of the investigation, confessed to being junior members of the Viking Confraternity as well as armed robbers.
