Due to a back injury, Germany midfielder Jamal Musiala will miss his team’s next friendlies against Japan and France, the German FA said on Thursday.
Musiala “would not be available for selection in the upcoming games against Japan and France due to back pain,” according to the statement, adding that “he did not travel to the team hotel today as planned.”
Despite missing Bayern Munich’s previous two matches due to a thigh injury, Musiala was named to manager Hansi Flick’s 24-man squad for September’s friendly.
Musiala was suffering from a back issue and “needed to pull out” of Saturday’s match against Japan and Tuesday’s match against France, according to Bayern.
Germany will not send in a substitute.
Due to thigh issues, forward Niclas Fuellkrug departed camp on Wednesday and returned to club side Borussia Dortmund.
In Fuellkrug’s absence, Flick called up striker Thomas Mueller, the veteran’s first call-up to the Germany squad since the Qatar World Cup in 2022.
Germany has qualified to host Euro 2024 and will hence only play friendly matches in the lead-up.
