Police arrest seven for protesting governor's dismissal in Kano

The Kano State Election Petition Tribunal has dismissed the suit submitted by the All Progressive Congress (APC) and its candidate, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuana, disputing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf‘s candidature.

The tribunal stated that the issue of candidature is an internal party affair that has no bearing on the plaintiffs, let alone interferes with it.

The APC and Gawuna petitioned the Kano Election Petition tribunal, claiming that Abba is not a full member of the New Nigerian People Party (NNPP), and he was not on its register when it nominated him; therefore, he is ineligible to run.

Similarly, the Presidential Election Appeal Tribunal denied the APC appeal to dispute Peter Obi’s membership in the Labour Party (LP).

The court stated in its decision that an individual’s participation in a political party is an internal concern.

The ruling undercut the APC’s allegation about Obi’s political affiliation and LP membership status.

The decision reaffirmed the premise that political parties have the power to regulate their internal affairs, including party membership issues.
