Elanga’s first Forest goal sinks Chelsea

Anthony Elanga has joined Nottingham Forest from Manchester United in a deal believed to be £15m

Anthony Elanga scored his first goal for Nottingham Forest in a hard-fought Premier League victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Summer signing Elanga, who came on in first-half extra time after Danilo was injured, scored immediately after the interval when he raced on to Taiwo Awoniyi’s pass and slotted home.

Nicolas Jackson squandered a golden chance to equalize inside the final ten minutes, blazing over from inside the six-yard box after being set up by Raheem Sterling.

Willy Boly had earlier denied Jackson with a last-ditch block, while Mauricio Pochettino deployed £40 million deadline-day acquisition Cole Palmer as Chelsea sought a reaction.

Despite dominating possession, territory, and chances, the hosts were punished by a tenacious Forest for failing to capitalize on their opportunities.

Steve Cooper’s visitors moved up to ninth in the rankings with their second win in four games, while Chelsea dropped to 11th in the early standings.
