Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Thursday struck out the two-count charges bordering on possession of a firearm against suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, for lack of diligent prosecution.

The judge ruled in Emefiele’s favour as the legal battles of the former Zenith Bank MD begin to unfold.

Chronicle NG reports that on August 15, the Nigerian government dropped firearm charges against Emefiele.

In an oral application, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mohammed Abubakar, told Justice Oweibo that the application followed the result of further investigations.

However, counsel to the suspended CBN Governor, Joseph Daudu (SAN), opposed the application, insisting that the government must first purge itself of the disobedience of the court’s order granting Emefiele bail before its application could be taken.

Justice Oweibo then adjourned the case after listening to the arguments of the two lawyers.

In his ruling today, the judge struck out the accusation of the Nigerian government for lack of diligent prosecution.
