A dusk-to-dawn curfew has been imposed on Opu-Nembe by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri in response to a crisis that is roiling the community.
All of the youth and chieftaincy councils in Opu-Nembe were also disbanded by the governor during a closed door meeting with state security council members.
Before the start of the security meeting, the governor addressed the media on the efforts taken by his administration to keep Bayelsa State peaceful for more than three years since he took office.
Following the meeting, Akpoebi Agberebi, the governor’s special security adviser, gave reporters a briefing on the decisions made.
The security council also urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to remove the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) squad dispatched to Opu-Nembe and give the combined security agents in the state time to diffuse the situation.
