Edison Cavani scores his first Manchester United goal against Everton in the league Europa League

Edinson Cavani’s contract at Valencia has been terminated ahead of his projected move to Boca Juniors in Argentina.

Cavani, 36, had a deal with Valencia until June 2024 after joining the Spanish club from Manchester United last summer.

However, while the La Liga club finished two points above the relegation zone, the former Paris-Saint-Germain midfielder scored just seven goals in 28 games last season.

“Valencia CF and Edinson Cavani have reached an agreement for the termination of the Uruguayan striker’s contract with the club,” a statement said.

Cavani is still a member of Uruguay‘s international squad, having scored 58 goals in 136 games.

In 2007, he left Danubio for Palermo in Serie A before going on to establish himself as an elite goalscorer with Napoli and PSG before joining United in 2020.

Boca Juniors won their 35th Argentine league title in 2022, although they now sit ninth in the rankings this season.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero and former Marseille attacker Dario Benedetto lead the Buenos Aires squad.
