Wike to flag off rehabilitation of Abuja roads

On Monday, July 31, 2023, the Senate cleared the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, in his ministerial nomination screening.

The upper legislative house cleared Wike without interrogating him after he read his brief profile on the floor of the senate.

Explaining why he was cleared without grilling, the Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, has revealed that Senators did not question the PDP stalwart during the ministerial nomination screening because of his experiences as a governor and minister under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The former governor of Rivers State was asked to “bow and go” after reading his brief profile and following an appeal by Senator Barinada Mpigi (PDP, Rivers).

He stated that when ex-President Goodluck Jonathan nominated Wike as a minister, he came before the Senate for vetting.

“Having been nominated again for a ministerial position, there is no point asking him many questions,” Akpabio said.
