Liverpool are set to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.
The Premier League club informed Leipzig that they will activate the player’s release clause of 70 million euros (£60.1 million).
Last season, the 22-year-old offensive midfielder from Hungary helped Leipzig finish third in the Bundesliga and win the German Cup.
Leipzig gave Szoboszlai permission to fly to the United Kingdom on Saturday to undertake his medical at Liverpool.
Szoboszlai’s release clause, which has also been linked to Newcastle United, expired on Friday.
Szoboszlai made 31 appearances in the Bundesliga last season, scoring six goals and registering eight assists.
He signed for Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in January 2021 and has since scored 20 goals and had 21 assists in 91 appearances.
One of those goals came in Leipzig’s 2-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt on June 3 as they won the German Cup for the second season in a row.
Liverpool added to their midfield earlier in June with the signing of Argentina international Alexis MacAllister for £35 million from Brighton.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is looking to reinforce that area of the pitch with James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leaving the club this summer.
