Gunmen invade church, kill pastor, kidnap seven in Ogun

Unidentified gunmen invaded a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Ogun State yesterday, July 1, 2023, killed the pastor, and kidnapped seven worshippers.
According to Soji Ganzallo, Commander of the Ogun State So-Safe Corps, who confirmed the incident, officers of the corp rescued the seven church members while one of the suspects was killed during the rescue mission.
As stated in a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Moruf Yusuf, Ganzallo was quoted as saying the incident occurred at about 12 a.m.
He said “the special operation team of the Corps, Owode-Egba Zonal Command, under ACC Jimoh Rasaki Omoniyi, received a distress call that some of the members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Desires of Nations Parish, under Ogun Province 22, Abule-Ori in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, were attacked during a vigil; seven members of the church were kidnapped and the pastor killed.”
According to him, men of the Corps promptly went after the suspects to rescue the victims unhurt, stating that “the officers swung into action immediately.”
“The seven victims were rescued unhurt, while one of the kidnappers was killed and many of the suspects sustained serious injuries during a fire exchange,” he added.
Furthermore, He stated that the joint team of the police and the So-Safe Corps was after the fleeing suspected kidnappers to neutralize them.
The body of the dead kidnapper is said to have been deposited in a nearby morgue.
