Orji Uzor-Kalu, others reject Akpabio as Senate President
Some aspirants for the position of Senate President for the 10th National Assembly, including senators Orji Uzor-Kalu, Abdulaziz Yari, and Sani Musa, are meeting with the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership, the National Working Committee (NWC), at the ruling party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The aspirants led by Uzor-Kalu urged the APC leadership to reconsider the Senate President’s micro-zoning.
He warned that, while he has never violated the party, the leadership should brace themselves for a surprise on election day, because the disgruntled hopefuls will openly defy the party.
He stated that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the party’s leadership zoning positions to geopolitical zones, but everything is inherently wrong with micro-zoning and pencilling in names.
Chronicle NG reports that the APC NWC and the president-elect, Bola Tinubu had nominated Senator Godswill Akpabio to be the Senate President of the 10th National Assembly.
In attendance at the meeting were APC national chairman Abdullahi Adamu, his deputy, national deputy chairman (north) Abubakar Kyari, and party secretary, Iyiola Omisore.
