Serena Williams announced her second pregnancy on Monday at the Met Gala in New York, telling reporters that there were “three of us” on the red carpet, when she came with husband Alexis Ohanian.

Last year, the 23-time major champion declared that she was “evolving away from tennis,” saying in a Vogue magazine piece that she wanted to expand her family following the birth of her daughter Olympia in 2017.

“I was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the three of us to the Met Gala,” Serena Williams wrote on TikTok on Monday night.

Serena Williams, a long-time friend of Wintour, the Vogue editor-in-chief and Met Gala co-chair, is a regular visitor of the annual event to support the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and wore a form-fitting black gown with a white skirt on Monday.

The gala’s theme this year was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” in tribute to the late Chanel designer.

She also had a buddy on the red carpet in the form of retired 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer, who was there as a co-chair of the event.

Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit and an entrepreneur, was seen on the red carpet softly putting his hand on the 41-year-old Serena Williams’ abdomen.

The news made a comeback to competitive tennis for Serena Williams, one of the most accomplished athletes ever to take up a racquet, look exceedingly doubtful.
