Man stabs elder brother for asking him to quit smoking in Kaduna

Adamu Sanusi, 25, was charged before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for allegedly stabbing his brother in the chest with a shattered bottle.
The defendant, who lives on Ali Akilu Road in Kaduna, is accused of two counts of assault and causing bodily harm.
He, on the other hand, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Inspector Chidi Leo, the prosecution, told the court that the defendant committed the crime on April 28 at around 7.45 p.m. at their apartment.
After a disagreement, Leo claimed that the defendant stabbed his elder brother, Nurudeen, in the chest with a broken bottle.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant’s elder brother encouraged him to quit smoking and stop being a nuisance, but the defendant became enraged and an incident ensued.
“In the process, the defendant broke a bottle and stabbed his brother in the chest and he was hospitalized,” he added.
Leo said the offense contravened Section 244 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, in his ruling, granted the defendant N200,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.
He said the sureties, who must be blood relations of the defendant and must be gainfully employed, must show evidence of tax payments to the state government.
The case was then adjourned till June 19.
