Authorities claim that armed men murdered a toddler and six other people on Saturday after assaulting a resort in the Guanajuato state of central Mexico. The area is becoming more rife with drug cartel violence.

Social media users uploaded videos of the attack’s aftermath in a palm-fringed resort in the little town of Cortazar, which is located about 65 kilometres (40 miles) south of Guanajuato.

According to Cortazar’s local security division, it was unclear who was responsible for the gunshot that killed the seven-year-old, three men, and three women. In the La Palma resort, one individual suffered a major injury.

But in recent years, opposing drug gangs have engaged in bloody wars to seize territory and trafficking routes across the state.

Video captured shortly after the incident showed horrified parents and kids passing by heaps of dead corpses next to a swimming pool.

In a video posted online, an unnamed male can be heard saying, “Heavily armed sicarios came and this is what occurred.

According to a statement from Cortazar’s security division, the assailants escaped after the assault but not before damaging the resort shop and stealing the surveillance cameras and monitor.
