Five-storey building collapses in Lagos

A five-story building under construction collapsed on Sunday at Ladipo Oluwole Street, GRA, Apapa, Lagos state.
According to reports, the structure caved in due to a thunder strike during an early morning downpour in Lagos.

Meanwhile, men from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, and other emergency responders have rushed to the spot to help.
Magret Adeseye, Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, acknowledged the occurrence and stated that no casualties were reported.
Asimiyu Tiamiyu, a volunteer with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Council Development Area, LCDA, who was among the first on the site, claimed no casualties were reported.
According to him, all of the workers at the fallen building were on Sallah break, which is why no one was injured in the tragedy.
He stated that the state government should shine a spotlight on the reoccurring event of collapsed structures, which has cost many lives and ruined property worth billions of Naira.
