Adamawa: INEC declares PDP’s Ahmadu Fintiri governor-elect

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Ahmadu Fintiri as Adamawa state governor-elect after it resumed collation on Tuesday.

Fintiri, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate defeated Aisha Dahiru Ahmed popularly known as Aisha Binani, the All Progressives Congress candidate.

The incumbent governor has now been re-elected having won the supplementary election.

He garnered 421, 524 votes to beat his closest contender Binani who polled 390,275.

Announcing the result on Tuesday in Yola, the Returning Officer, Prof. Mohammed Mele, said that the supplementary poll was conducted in 69 polling units across 20 local government areas of the state.

“Ahmadu Fintiri of the PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes in the election is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” the said.

Festus Okoye, INEC national commissioner and chairman, voter education and information committee, was present during the announcement.

INEC had fixed April 15 for supplementary governorship poll following the declaration of the March 18 election inconclusive in the state.
