Reuben Abati, a former special adviser, media and publicity to former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan has slammed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its shoddy conduct of the governorship and state house of assembly polls on March 18.

Abati, now a news presenter with Arise News also mocked security agencies for failure to address violence and intimidation during the vote.

With reports of widespread violence especially in Lagos, where thugs snatched ballot boxes and voters were intimidated with police personnel doing nothing.

In a tweet on Sunday, he described the poor showing by INEC and security agencies as a ‘shame. “What just happened in Nigeria? An election or a burlesque? Even masquerades voted,” Abati said.

Adding that, “Touts and thugs replaced the electoral commission and took charge. Shame on INEC and the security agencies for turning our country into a comedy station of the world.”
