Election: Thugs hijack, destroys voting materials in Bayelsa

According to reports, some political thugs stole and destroyed voting materials intended for wards 2, 3, 4 and 5 in Bayelsa State’s Ogbia Local Government Area’s constituency five for the House of Assembly election.
According to his chief press secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, the act has already been strongly condemned by Governor Douye Diri.
The governor pleaded with Bayelsa State’s Inspector General of Police and Commissioner of Police to put an end to the unrest.
At polling places 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 in the Yenagoa LGA of Bayelsa State’s Atissa Constituency, accreditation and voting had not yet begun as of 9 a.m.
Our correspondent observed that INEC officials and balloting materials had yet to leave the Atissa RAC as of 8:45am.
Buses and other vehicles were seen being loaded with voting materials to depart for polling units in the area.
