APC sacks Rivers exco, appoints caretaker committee

In Katsina, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has won three senatorial seats and nine of the 15 house of representatives seats.

The party lost the majority of votes cast in the state during the presidential election to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to media reports, the PDP won six House of Representatives seats in the state.

Alhaji Abdulaziz Yar’adua of the All Progressives Congress was declared the winner of the Katsina Central zone, with 153,512 votes to PDP’s Aminu Sirajo’s 152,140.

Prof. Aminu Dalhatu-Kankia, the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) senatorial Returning Officer, declared Yar’adu’a the winner.

PDP incumbent Sen. Ahmed Babba-Kaita lost to All Progressives Congress’s Nasir Zangon-Daura in the Northern Katsina senatorial district (Daura zone).

According to the Returning Officer, Prof. Umar Sanda, Zangon-Daura, a current member of the House of Representatives, received 174,062 votes, while Babba-Kaita received 163,586 votes.

In the Southern zone, the APC’s Muntari Dandutse, an incumbent House of Representatives member, received 203,245 votes to defeat the PDP’s Shehu Garba, who received 151,519 votes.

Prof. Iliyasu Yusuf-Gobir, the Returning Officer, announced the results on Monday.
