AIG Jimeta passes away at 59

AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 5, which includes the states of Edo, Delta, and Bayelsa, has passed away.

After a brief illness, he was said to have passed away on Sunday morning at the Benin Teaching Hospital in Edo State.

This was said in a brief WhatsApp message sent on Sunday by SP Ahmed Wakil, the police public relations officer for the Bauchi State Command.

He said: “Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With a heavy heart but total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, I wish to announce the death of A.I.G Lawan Tanko Jimeta

“He died at the Teaching Hospital, Benin Edo State, this morning after a brief Illness.

“To Allah, we belong and to him, we shall return, a real departure of a Godly man.

May he give the families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, am in”

Jimeta was born on September 9 1964 in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in the English Language from the University of Maiduguri; and a Masters’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the National Open University.

He enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on 3rd March 1990 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and was trained in the Nigeria Police Academy Annex, Kaduna State.

AIG Jimeta has served in various capacities in the Nigeria Police including Edo State Commissioner of Police, Personal Assistant to the AIG of Police, Department of Training and Development, FHQ Annex, Lagos State and Chief of Training, Directorate on Peace-keeping, FHQ, Abuja as well as Area Commander, Suleja.
