Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate has quietly aborted his much-touted political trip to the United States.
Tinubu, who returned to Nigeria after a trip to the United Kingdom that included an appearance at the Chatham House is in Ibadan, Oyo state instead of the US today.
The former Lagos governor’s outing in the UK drew mixed reactions from his supporters and opposition particularly his inability to answer questions at the Chatham House.
Shortly before embarking on his trip to the UK, some members of the opposition had claimed that Tinubu was denied US visa but he kicked back by publishing his visa page.
According to a statement by the APC, he was supposed to visit the US after his visit to the UK but that never materialised.
Reacting to a fake picture of Tinubu and President Joe Biden in the White House, the APC said, “Tinubu is in Abuja not in the United States: A viral photo of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and US President Joe Biden in talks at the White House is the latest in the series of misinformation being dished out by the political opposition. It is fake.”
“A viral photograph showing Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and US President Joe Biden in talks at the White House is the latest in the series of misinformation being dished out by the political opposition.
The party then added that, “Although America was listed among his destinations, according to an unofficial report that was widely shared, we can confirm that the APC presidential candidate was in Abuja all through Tuesday. He was in Abuja on Monday as well, and has no need to surreptitiously leave Nigeria, like some candidates do.
To buttress the fact that he will be visiting the US, Festus Keyamo, the spokesperson for the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council published his visa page.
His two major contenders, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of Labour Party have argued that he is not fit enough to run for office of president in 2023.
Although his camp has rejected such notions, the former Lagos governor has suffered a handle of gaffes at major campaign rallies and have often mouthed gibberish which have become viral contents of ridicule.
