The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has highlighted the crucial role that the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) can play in helping Nigeria fully harness the potential of its blue economy.
This economy refers to the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and jobs, while preserving the health of the ocean ecosystem.
In a statement, the Director-General of NIMASA, Dr Bashir Jamoh, emphasized the need for collaboration between government agencies and the private sector in order to accelerate the gains in Nigeria.
He also noted the importance of the NIIA in advising the government on policies that will facilitate it realization.
The Director-General of the NIIA, Prof. Eghosa Osaghae, echoed the importance of the blue economy globally and called for its sustainable use to be considered in policy formulation by the government.
