Canada Fake News alert

The government of Canada has dismissed news reports that it has reached an agreement with the Nigerian government to welcome over one million Nigerian immigrants.

In a fraud alert issued on Friday, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) noted that the information was false.

The IRCC urged citizens seeking accurate information on how to immigrate to visit the official Canadian immigration website.

“Disinformation is circulating which suggests that Canada is welcoming one million immigrants from Nigeria.

“This is false, and the immigration program referenced does not exist,” IRCC said in a tweet.

Some leading online newspaper and television networks in Nigeria had reported that the Canadian government was ready to welcome 1.45 million Nigerian immigrants.

The IRCC profile on Twitter says they are available to answer immigration questions from 9 a.m. Monday to 5 p.m. Friday.

The North American country has many pathways for immigrants including the Express Entry, Family Sponsorship, Provincial Nominees, Agric-Food Pilot amongst others.
