Unknown gunmen abduct Commissioner for information, Yakubu Lawal in Nasarawa

Yakubu Lawal, the commissioner for information and culture for the state of Nasarawa, has been taken hostage by unidentified gunmen.

He was abducted while leaving his home in Nasarawa Eggon.

Nansel Rahman, the state’s police public relations officer, confirmed the incident to press on Tuesday morning.

He claimed that as a result, the police officers assigned to Nasarawa Eggon Division sped to the scene while CP Adesina Soyemi, the police commissioner, immediately backed up the men with a combined detachment of the Police Mobile Force, the Anti Kidnapping unit, Military personnel, Vigilante, and local hunters.

He said, “On 15/8/202 at about 2045hrs, the attention of Policemen on routine patrol was drawn to the sound of sporadic gunshots in the Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state.”

“Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered those unknown gunmen while shooting sporadically, invaded the residence of one Hon. Yakubu Lawal Addah, forcefully abducted him to an unknown destination.”

He added that the joint squad, under the direction of Area Commander, Akwanga Area Command, ACP Halliru Aliyu, is still conducting a search and rescue operation in an effort to save the victim’s life and apprehend the criminals.
