Assailants kill NYSC member in Adamawa lodge

A current member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) identified as Samaila Awudu, has been killed at his lodge around the Adamawa State capital, Yola.

The incident happened at the Yola South Local Government Area’s Yolde Pate NYSC Corpers’ Lodge, where the 28-year-old Samaila, who is thought to be from Taraba State, met his demise.

According to information released on Sunday night, the incident took place on Friday when five armed assailants broke into the lodge and attacked the corp member, leaving him seriously wounded.

He was quickly taken to Yola South’s Federal Medical Center (FMC), where he later passed away.

When the assailants got to the lodge, according to a corps member who witnessed the incident, they locked all the other corps members’ out before entering Samaila’s room.

The witness who requested anonymity, said, “They used an axe in cutting him and thought he was dead. Maybe they were hired killers, we don’t know. Right now we are all living in fear.”

Jingi Dennis, the director of the Adamawa State NYSC, has stated that steps are being taken to identify Samaila’s killers.

The state police command, led by CP Sikiru Akande, is already conducting an investigation to identify individuals responsible for the killing, according to SP Sulieman Nguroje, the public relations officer for the Adamawa State Police, who also commented on the tragedy.

“We are assuring all members of the public that this is an eye-opener because this is the first time this kind of thing would happen in Adamawa State, and the Command has already met with the NYSC Officials so that the lives of NYSC members in Adamawa State could be secured.

“When the incident happened, the Commissioner of Police drove down to the scene and he was the first person to take him to the hospital himself,” Nguroje said.
