Kenya elections: Buhari congratulates Ruto as he emerges president

President Muhammadu Buhari congratulates William Ruto, the winner of Kenya’s general elections on August 9, 2022, on his victory.

The Kenyan people’s peaceful and transparent election results are another example of how the democratic process, values, and principles continue to be the best means for people to choose their leaders and hold them responsible. The President commends the Kenyan people for these qualities.

Based on a long history of friendship, economic and trade ties, and successful collaboration through international organizations like the African Union, the United Nations, and the Commonwealth, President Buhari claims that Nigeria values Kenya as a strategic partner in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

The President hopes for more beneficial and robust exchanges between the two nations on common priorities including advancing democracy, economic prosperity, and social development while wishing Deputy President Ruto a good inauguration and term in office.

The president of Nigeria also commends President Uhuru Kenyatta for his statesmanship and exemplary leadership shown to the Kenyan people over the course of the last nine years, as well as for the significant contributions made by his administration to infrastructure, education, healthcare reforms, tourism, and regional security.
