The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu will on Thursday announce his running mate as the deadline by the Independent National Electoral Commission draws close.
According to sources, the ruling party and its candidate will settle for a Muslim/Muslim ticket despite public outcry.
Those in contention to be Tinubu’s running mate include Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state; Governor Kabir Masari of Katsina state; a former Secretary of the Buhari Support Group (BSG) and ally of the President Muhammadu Buhari from the days of All Nigerian People’s Party (ANPP) and Congress for Progressive Change ( CPC), Dr. Ibrahim Bello Dauda as well as a former governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima.
Dauda, a management consultant from Borno State is said to have the support of party chieftains, especially the CPC bloc since the New PDP and the ACN have taken the national chairman and presidential ticket respectively.
Although there are others who believe that Masari, an ally of President Buhari will emerge as Tinubu’s running mate.
Many Christian groups including the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria and the Catholic Church has kicked against the Muslim Muslim ticket.
