2023: Emefiele withdraws from presidential race

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele has withdrawn from the 2023 presidential bid, a credible source confirmed to BusinessDay.
His withdrawal comes many weeks after speculations about his decision to stay in office as the apex bank boss while pursuing his presidential ambition.
Emefiele through his counsel, Mike Ozekhome, approached a court seeking clarification on the possibility of his client staying on as CBN governor.
“CBN Governor has withdrawn from the presidential race and has communicated his intention to continue as CBN Governor,” the source said.
Emefiele had met President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, where he may have informed him of his decision.
Though he declined comment after the meeting, he told State House correspondents to expect an announcement.
“There is no news now, but there will be news,” the CBN Governor said.
“Let them have a heart attack. Its good to have a heart attack. I am having a lot of fun”, Emefiele said to mock Nigerians who have raised concerns that the CBN Governor who is supposed to be politically neutral was a card carrying member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
