In a show of respect for APC Elders in the Southwest, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has joined the meeting called by both Chief Bisi Akande and Aremo Olusegun Osoba winning praise from elders at the ongoing meeting.
Osinbajo who has been meeting APC delegates across the States was seen today both in Anambra and Enugu States where he held no less than five engagements including a courtesy call with Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, meetings with the APC delegates and stop over at some of the party offices in the States.
Osinbajo then apparently rushed back to catch the meeting which was set for 6pm.
His arrival according to sources at the venue at the Lagos State House in Marina, enlivened the atmosphere and spurred banners and back-slapping in the room among the participants of the meeting as press photographers clicked away.
The meeting was convened by the first national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande and a former Governor of Ogun state, Chief Segun Osoba, both of whom served as co-conveners.
Also at the meeting, apart from the aspirants were the former Governor of Lagos State and Works and Housing Minister Mr. Babatunde Fashola, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief Niyi Adebayo, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state and Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun state.
Others included former Osun State Governor and Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola and the APC National Secretary Otunba Iyiola Omisore.
The meeting was ongoing as at press time.
Chronicle NG reports that Progressive lawyers had kicked against the proposed meeting of Southwest presidential aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by some leaders of the region.
The convener of the group and a constitutional lawyer, Dr Kayode Ajulo, said that it was a wrong motive and a wrong move.
He agreed that the initiative was borne out of earlier call on Yoruba leaders to hold strategic conference to provide direction towards the fate of Southwest in the forthcoming presidential election.
He noted that it was the utmost desire of the group that such an important meeting be conveyed with a view to establish a consensus among aspirants of the APC in Southwest.
He, however, said it should have been designed appropriately to promote fairness with genuine intention.
