Iyaloja-General, Chief Folashade Tinubu-Ojo has described allegations that she collected N5 million bribe from traders at Oyingbo Market, Lagos as “baseless”.

A statement by her media aide, Omogbolahan Babawale, urged the public to “discountenance the attempts by mischief-makers to disparage Tinubu-Ojo.”

He said “their attempt to ridicule both the office and personality of Iyaloja-general with a phantom, baseless and unfounded N5 million bribe by market traders is at best jejune, infantile and puerile; and a figment of the imagination of purveyors of such balderdash.

‘’Such gobbledygook already fell flat on its face and shall remain so. The Iyaloja-general remains undaunted in her resolve to provide leadership and welfare to her subordinates.”

The market, Babawale said, was shut due to its unhealthy nature for communal living.

He said: “For more than two years, the market environment remained untidy. Prior to the lock up of the market, some traders contacted the Iyaloja-general, lamenting the deplorable condition of the market and she visited the market on November 4.

‘’She advised the traders to do a clean-up, which they promised to carry out. Surprisingly, the traders went on with their daily transaction as against the instruction to carry out sanitation of the market.

‘’Officials of Lagos State Environment Council (LAGSEC) had noted how the traders had remained recalcitrant despite warnings from government agencies. On November 5, the Office of the Iyaloja-General shut down the market to allow for a clean-up of the market.”
