Amotekun rescues five worshippers kidnapped from Ondo church

The Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Operation Amotekun in Ondo state has rescued five worshippers that were abducted by gunmen during a vigil.

The gunmen reportedly attacked a church in Akure, Ondo State capital, abducting the general overseer of the church, three women and a baby.

The heinous attack on the church reportedly occurred between 12:30 and 1am during a vigil.

According to reports, one of the kidnappers reportedly entered the church and, after a few minutes, brought out his weapon and threatened the group.

His gang members joined him afterwards and five persons were abducted.

On receiving the distress call from other church members, Amotekun operatives chased the kidnappers to a forest off Ado Road.

All five victims were rescued, while one of the kidnappers was apprehended.

Amotekun commander, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, who spoke while parading 22 suspects arrested in other operations, said efforts were on to catch the fleeing gunmen who attacked the church.
