The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority’s (LASTMA) on Thursday increased effort at ensuring free-flow of traffic during the yuletide.

The agency held an ’ember months meeting and advocacy with the Mile 12 Food Traders’ Executives on Thursday 25th November, 2021 at the LASTMA headquarters in Oshodi.

According to Olumide Filade, Assistant Director, Public Affairs
LASTMA, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Bolaji Oreagba requested the cooperation of the traders’ executives in ensuring free flow of traffic throughout the yuletide season and beyond, especially as there is the availability of the traders’ traffic enforcement wardens who should ensure adherence to the State’s traffic rules and regulations.

He opined that we should all cooperate to ensure that there is unhindered or hitch-free traffic during the celebrations in the interest of the sellers, buyers and the motoring public at large.

The executives of the Mile 12 traders claim that they have an existing park that can accommodate five hundred vehicles. This necessitated the constitution of an inspection and recommendation committee to visit their park for assessment.

The excos also promised to work with the National Union of Road Transport Workers to ensure compliance.

The General Manager promised to locate a heavy-duty towing vehicle at Mile 12 henceforth in case of truck breakdowns and it was also agreed that trucks conveying food items should be summoned to the market between 8pm and 5am the following morning in order to avoid traffic gridlock especially during rush hours.

Oreagba therefore concluded by encouraging all road users to be traffic law-abiding always as they go about their activities this season.

Present at the meeting from the traders’ delegates were Umar Idris, chairman, Yam Traders Association and Olusegun Ebinyi, chairman, Perishable Foods Traders among others.
